Grab your saucepan (or your Thermie) because we’re making the easiest kids’ snack you’ll ever whip up. Three ingredients, two pretty layers, and a fridge full of home-made, protein-packed orange gummies my crew inhales like actual lollies.
These are the simpler cousin of my high-protein berry gummies. They’ve got orange juice, gelatin, and Greek yoghurt doing the heavy lifting. The two-layer trick (clear orange on the bottom, creamy yoghurt-orange on top) is what makes them look like proper little jewels.
Best bit? They set in the fridge in about 60 minutes total. Make a batch on Sunday, pack them into lunchboxes with an ice brick during the week, and the kids think they’re getting a treat. Winner.
Why you’ll love these gummies
3 ingredients — orange juice, gelatin, Greek yoghurt. That’s it.
Two pretty layers — clear orange on the bottom, creamy on top. Looks fancy, isn’t.
Gut-loving gelatin — great for your gut lining, joints, all the good stuff
Protein-packed — the yoghurt layer with the gelatin is doing serious work
Lunchbox-ready — pop in an ice brick and they hold up perfectly until lunch
Kid-approved — my babes ask for these weekly
Frequently asked orange gummy questions
What gelatin and moulds do I use?
I love this gelatin from Thankfully Nourished as its Australian.
And these moulds are super cute and the kids love the different shapes.
Do I have to do the two layers?
Nope. Whisk the yoghurt straight into the whole mixture and pour it all in at once. Single-layer creamy gummies, still delicious.
Can toddlers have these?
Mine did. I cut them into small (about 1 cm) cubes to avoid choking hazards. My babes had them from about 12 months.
Can I freeze them?
You can, but the texture changes on thaw and they go a bit weepy. I just make them up fresh.
Why did my gummies not set?
Check you got the quantity of gelatin right. And most importantly, the gelatin is fully melted into the juice.
Lunchbox & storage tips
In the fridge
Airtight container, 4 days easy.
School lunchbox
These hold up beautifully with an ice brick. Pop 4 or 5 gummies into a small leak-proof container, tuck it next to a proper ice brick in the insulated lunchbox, and they’ll still be firm and cold by lunch.
Toddler snack
Same trick with a smaller container. Perfect for morning tea at daycare or a park picnic.
Not-so-cold days
Warmer than an ice-bricked lunchbox (car boot, sports bag) and they’ll get soft. Keep them chilled.
Add the orange juice and gelatin to a saucepan and gently heat, stirring until the gelatin has completely dissolved. (Thermomix, reverse speed 2, 50°C, 4 mins)
Pour half of the orange mixture, 1-cup into your gummy moulds and pop them into the fridge to set.
Whisk the Greek yoghurt into the remaining orange mixture until smooth and creamy. (Thermomix, speed 4, 10 sec)
Once the first layer has set — about 30 mins — gently pour the yoghurt mixture over the top and pop them back into the fridge to set. If your mixture sets, just lightly heat it again.
Once they’re completely firm — about 1 hour — pop the gummies out of their moulds and you’re done!
Store in the fridge for 4-ish days and enjoy whenever you need a little protein-packed snack.
